West Asia

The Middle East is largely known for its political and religious background and this dates back to the 19th century, when British soldiers actually gave the area this nickname. It was to stand for, and still stands for today, not simply stating where it is on a map but also to acknowledge the fact that it had made itself distinctive from Europe, which was the West, and the Far East politically as well as geographically. The Middle East lies in the western part of Asia and also takes up the northeastern area of Africa. Some of the most common cities and countries in the Middle East to be visited are Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.

It’s because of its political strife and constant search for an answer as well as the beauty of the land that draws people here year after year. Visitors often find the diversity among the people refreshing as it’s not uncommon to see Arabs, Jews, Persians and Turks mixing among each other peacefully, despite what people from other countries may think about this area. Except for Israel, which mostly practices the Jewish religion, the other countries within the Middle East mainly practice Muslim. This allows visitors to tour some of the most beautiful temples that one could ever be privileged enough to see. There are definitely some minorities in the Middle East as well and there are also many small towns and villages that may have their own cultural practices and beliefs.

Because it is such a politically charged area, the most important thing visitors can remember is to keep safe. There are many areas that are often being heavily inflicted with war and so should not be visited at all. Because this is always changing, it’s important to check out which areas are currently at war so you can be sure to avoid that area and the surrounding areas. It’s also important to ensure that you will be able to visit all of the areas that you want to see before creating your itinerary. Many countries don’t encourage visitors and so don’t except passports except for a few rare tours that cost a lot of money. It’s not recommended that you spend the money and it’s better that these areas also just be avoided. The laws of any country that you will be visiting should be fully understood. In some countries things that are considered acceptable in other parts of the world, such as homosexuality are considered severe crimes and have just as severe penalties.

If you want to visit Israel at all on your trip and have plans on visiting other countries, it may be wise to visit Israel last. There is much tension with Israel and foreign nations and so, many of them don’t recognize Israel as a country and will not accept visas or passports that so much as have an Israeli stamp in it! Save it for last and you won’t be disappointed by not being permitted access into other fascinating areas!

The most important thing to remember about travelling to the Middle East is that no matter how much is written about safety in the Middle East, it should not deter you from enjoying your visit there. It is a great place to see and it is one of the richest places on earth in terms of culture and history. While it’s important to keep your own safety in mind when touring the Middle East, the same is true for anywhere else and this is a beautiful area of earth to explore!
